Term 3 Week 1 - Painted Driftwood Craft

Welcome back to Green & Groovy for Term 3.

This week we painted driftwood collected from our local beach. We used pastel and fluorescent colours. We looked at pattern and used tiny brushes to create intricate lines and shapes on our wood.

Well done to everyone, the finished works looks great and a nice way to brighten up a cold winter's day!

Check out the pics below.

Angry Birds Space Joke Book

Are you ready to have your ribs well and truly tickled? The Angry Birds are back in full force with this interglactic side-splitting joke book! One side stars the Angry Birds, then flip over to read more from their arch-nemesis - the pigs! Readers will be snorting with laughter on pages filled with space-themed jokes alongside great illustrations of the birds and pigs themselves.

Handa's Surprising Day

Featuring Handa, star of "Handa's Hen" and "Handa's Surprise", this innovative storybook contains three linked stories and is designed to build reader confidence. Join the ever popular Handa, a young African girl living in a Kenyan tribe, as she goes about her everyday life, delivering fruit to her village, hunting for her Grandma's black hen with her friend, Akeyo and encountering a troublesome goat.

The Boy who could Fly

These inspiring and empowering stories feature small, timid children who blossom when they are given magical powers. Thomas Top's ability to fly brings heartbreak and happiness; Sam Ray meets a little alien that explains how being invisible can be a big help; Ruby Genie is a girl so tiny that she can fit into a handbag; and Josie Jenkins discovers she can lift anything, even a school bus.

The Complete Philosophy of Files

Is there a God, should I eat meat, where does the universe come from, could I live for ever as a robot? These are the big questions readers will be wrestling with in this thoroughly enjoyable book. Dip into any chapter and you will find lively scenarios and dialogues to take you through philosophical puzzles ancient and modern, involving virtual reality, science fiction and a host of characters from this and other planets. The text is interspersed on every page with lively cartoons, and there is a list of philosophical jargon at the end. Stephen Law has a gift for communicating complex ideas. He offers few answers, but his unstuffy, highly personal approach will have the reader thinking and arguing with as much pleasure as he does himself.

Make your Mark The Drawing Book for Children

Written and hand drawn by award-winning author Sarah Richardson, Make Your Mark functions as a drawing aid, taking its readers on a creative journey. Beginning with the joys of scribbling, children learn how to create tone, line, shape, texture, and pattern, eventually arriving at the more sophisticated principles involved in drawing animals and people and mastering perspective.

Sarah Richardson, a well-regarded art educator, brings a vitality and freshness to the book’s pages with her own drawings and photographs, which are as inspiring as her concise and pithy texts. Through its wide range of activities and creative challenges, this book will help young artists discover their own potential, giving them the confidence to go ahead and make their mark.

How to Build a Human Body

From the team who created the award-winning title How to Make a Universe from 92 Ingredients  and How to Change the Worlds with a Ball of String. HOW TO BUILD A HUMAN BODY makes human biology fun! Covering all the major body organs and systems, and featuring 'experiments' to help children to understand how their bodies work - this is a fascinating and entertaining approach to the science of our bodies.
